Applied Memory Deconsolidation & Reconsolidation

A Gentle and Powerful Approach to Working with Trauma.

  • AMDR is safe because we emphasis the importance of building trust in the therapy process. We train therapists, hypnotherapists, coaches and counsellors to convey care, kindness and support as effective tools in trauma treatment. We focus on ways to build relational bonds between therapist and client that help to make trauma repair safer and more comfortable.

  • AMDR is effective because it is an individualised and adaptable approach that closely follows the 3 phases of trauma-informed care. As such, AMDR focusses on the repair of broken trust created by the trauma experience. It also improves the client’s resilience with self-help tools and resources to build inner strength. AMDR is a carefully targeted mind-body approach which addresses the effects of trauma on 4 structured levels (physical, emotional, mental and spiritual). It is a thorough and precise model for effective trauma treatment.

  • AMDR is based on the science of memory deconsolidation and reconsolidation (memory updating and working memory taxing). Each element of the AMDR process is validated by the latest neuroscience research on trauma and mental health. All AMDR treatment protocols target and calm the nervous system utilising elements of mindfulness and somatic therapy, EMDR, hypnotherapy, NLP, tapping, breathing, chi gong, parts integration and inner child work (narrative therapy).

  • I am an experienced Cognitive Hypnotherapist, NLP Life Coach, EMDR Practitioner, teacher and trainer. I have been a Hypnotherapy Supervisor for the NCH since 2012 and I also co-trained EMDR with Joshua and was a Supervisor at the London EMDR Centre. I have been running my own full time therapy practice for 15 years.

I have a thirst for knowledge, love to learn, and would describe myself as an Eternal Student, as well as a natural teacher. I love to support and encourage the growth of others.

After a background in Advertising and the birth of my three children, I changed direction and trained in Antenatal Teaching for the NCT, for whom I taught classes for 26 years. Subsequently I became a therapist after gaining NLP Master Practitioner, and NLP Life Coach certificates with ITS, and my Diploma in Cognitive Hypnotherapy from The Quest Institute in 2009. I also qualified in EMDR with the EMDR Centre London. Over the years I have continued to amass many skills and a lot of experience.

After adding EMDR to my skill set, in collaboration with Joshua, I worked out a way to integrate it with Cognitive Hypnotherapy. The result was the development of the AMDR Process. Since then, my therapy work has gone to a whole new level which incorporates trauma repair on the physical, emotional, mental and spiritual levels, with amazing results. I am passionate about sharing this method and Joshua and I and have been training other therapists in AMDR since 2018, at Regents University.

I am particularly interested in the connection between trauma and health and also in the spiritual element of trauma. I have been using AMDR regularly in my practice for the past 4 years. During lockdown, I successfully helped many traumatised clients, using AMDR on Zoom.

I am intuitive, sensitive, caring, practical and relational in my approach with clients and students.

In many ways Joshua and I are complementary opposites, playing to each others strengths, and and creating a balance of our skills. Many AMDR students have commented on the harmony between us during the trainings which helps to make the AMDR courses easy to understand and also fun.

  • Joshua is co-creator of AMDR and co-author of the award-winning book Composure: The Art of Executive Presence. As a trauma and relationship therapist with 2 decades of experience Joshua focuses on neuroscience-informed approaches to healing trauma and shame, improving, mindfulness, and becoming more embodied.

Joshua is a Harvard-trained executive coach, has completed High Impact Leadership training at the University of Cambridge, has fulfilled programmes in mindfulness and neuroscience at the University of Oxford, and has trained in Neuroscience of Leadership at MIT Sloan Executive Education. Joshua has completed training in Sensorimotor Psychotherapy and is an accredited member of the International Council of Psychotherapists.
